Mr Mom

As I have begun a new chapter in my life, I realize I’m no longer just a photographer.  I’m also a dad.  Having a kid has brought a whole new perspective to my life as I understand that time is no longer my own.  It’s been almost three full weeks since Em went back to work and I took on my role as Mr. Mom.  It has not been easy as I have endured numerous blown diapers and countless spit-ups.  In fact, a few weeks ago, I posted on Facebook that I had just been hit by a real-life “Poop Tsunami”.  I recently heard a comedian talking about raising kids, he said, “There is a reason there isn’t an instruction booklet for raising kids because if there were, we probably wouldn’t have them.”

It seems I am constantly dealing with the unexpected and never quite know if I’m doing something right.  Every time I begin to think I have figured out a routine, Eliza changes things up.  I guess that’s a good thing as she always keeps me on my toes.   I’m trying to be a good  great dad.  It’s been challenging to balance both the business and be stay at home dad.  I am being forced to learn a new routine as I try to continue the growth of the business as well as raise an adorable daughter.

Although raising a child is certainly not easy, I feel it is one of the most rewarding thing I have ever done.  The good far outweighs the bad.  Each day I spend with Eliza is amazing.  She has a smile that just melts my heart. I never imagined I would ever be a stay at home dad, but I’m going to cherish every moment.

As I write this blog post, Eliza is sleeping right by me.  I don’t think I’ll ever tire of the squeaks and funny sounds she makes as she naps.  She is precious and I’m so lucky.  Before having a child, I expected that I would just constantly be taking photos of Eliza, but it’s been tough.  I’m usually too busy to snap some photos.  Today, I had to pull the camera out.  Eliza is learning to hold her head up and so I put her in her Bumbo.  She loves it! She has so much expression and is such a happy baby!  I probably have some bias, but Eliza might be the cutest baby ever!

We are blessed!  Here are a few photos from today.  Note, the ducky outfit she is wearing has to be one of my favorites!  Have a great weekend!

Johnny…I am sorry you will now and forever be known as Johnny to me 🙂 I am so proud of you for the role you are playing in your little girls life. The mother has a very important role, but speaking as a daughter the realationship between a father and daughter is oh so priceless. She will one day choose a young man to marry and she will be looking for the things in a man that she sees in her father, respect, compassion and unconditional love. Both you and Emily are beautiful parents and what an exciting chapter to add to your book we call life. I have to say she is the CUTEST baby ever. I want to hold and snuggle her so much she is perfect. Parenthood brings many up’s and many downs and it all is a learning experience. Know there will be tough times and that is ok PLEASE call me if you have any questions I don’t know what they can be but I have been a mom for so long I would love to assist in anyway I can. Good job guys. She is so stinkin cute!!! Love you all

My favorite picture (though hard to choose) is the one that captures the little caption on her shirt…CUTE LIKE MY MOM. I hope Emily sees that and appreciates it. That’s so sweet of you.

Its also so sweet to hear your words. Nothing is as wonderful or gratifying or terrifying or simply complicated as parenthood. I’m thrilled that you get to be home with her. Cherish every moment because, as you well know by now, God pushes FAST FORWARD the minute you have a kid….and suddenly they are 4 acting like they are 12. I’m scared to death that the 12 year old will come as quickly as the 4 year old….
